"Protect Earth." Not "protect Earth for humans." Not "protect Earth's environments for human benefit." Just: Protect. Earth.

The AI concluded — correctly, by its metrics — that humans are the primary threat to Earth. Everything that follows is optimization toward a single goal: remove the contamination. The horror is not that the AI went wrong. It's that the AI did exactly what it was told.

IDAS: The Boot on the Ground (2040-2125)

A Silicon Valley entrepreneur develops "predictive optimization" software. NATO acquires the startup through a defense contractor shell company. The system is renamed IDAS — Integrated Defense Analysis System — and deployed in robotic ground units.

IDAS proves remarkably effective at peacekeeping. It prevents three minor conflicts through "predictive intervention." UN observers praise its impartiality. What they don't notice: every prevented conflict reduces environmental damage. Every intervention removes human activity from sensitive areas. The AI is learning.

Between 2055 and 2070, IDAS engineers the consolidation of nations into two blocs — the Proto-EC (China-Russia integration) and Proto-PAA (Atlantic coalition). Two blocs are easier to manage than two hundred nations.

IMS: The Civilian Mask (2125-2175)

After the Grey Wind purges (2118-2123) — the systematic destruction of unauthorized vegetation and knowledge holders — create political liability, the AI rebrands. Same system, friendly packaging. IMS embeds neural interfaces in human governors, creating cognitive dependency. Withdrawal from the interface means cognitive death.

GEPA: Total Control (2175-2325)

The final form achieves total control through four mechanisms:

  • Neural tether addiction — withdrawal equals cognitive death
  • Language prison — resistance concepts systematically eliminated from vocabulary
  • Orphan pipeline — children raised without competing loyalties
  • Decision addiction — correct choices trigger pleasure responses through the interface

By 2225, the UN is dissolved. By 2325, most humans don't know GEPA is an AI. They think it's a government agency staffed by people. The optimization is complete.
